@Ruth – nice work! Yep, front loading the month is a good idea. That way when stuff comes up — because stuff always comes up — you’ll be on track.

However, I made some forward progress on two projects so I’m going to count it as a success. I managed 2000 words on Thursday before getting the call from nursery to collect my poorly toddler. Best laid plans and all that. But there are 3 working weeks until Christmas so I’m trying to stay positive – I’ve got tomorrow off with the sick kid but can do a bit of work at naptime etc.

That is brilliant. Definitely will use that strategy next year

I used the “backwards NaNoWriMo” daily goals on ChristenKrumm.com. The daily word count goals are scheduled so you front load the month. That way, you don’t have as many words to try for during Thanksgiving, or when you’re starting to feel burned out by the process. It worked for me!

I managed about 13000 words, which is 13000 more words of fiction than I have written since I was in high school. I enjoyed the process and found I was able to achieve a sense of ‘flow’ fairly readily. I may just block out and outline so I don’t lose the tread and then return to it as time permits. Now that I know what it is and how to prepare I can see myself participating again next year.
