@Kristen – it’s definitely a fascinating read. And it turns out there’s a follow up too, since her daughter died the following year. Can’t even imagine both of those right in a row…

But I forgot about it after the podcast.
Your recommendation made me remember to go put it on hold at the library!

@Maria- I’ll have to add it up, but I think my reading might total somewhere between 10-15 hours/week right now. If I’m reading a book that I consider “for work” I will read during my work day, so that opens up some time. 15 hours at about 60 pages/hour is 900 pages a week, though, so it definitely allows for a lot of books – that’s 3 decent sized ones, and 4 more normal sized ones. I do read fast. I will read on my kindle app in the morning while I’m up with the baby, and might get half an hour there. Possibly another 30 minutes here or there, and then 60 minutes before bed. Weekends possibly a little more or less.

How much time each day, in what pockets and duration, etc.

I am a relatively speedy reader who prioritizes reading, without children and with a full-but-reasonable job, but I don’t come close to matching your consumption!

When I look at my own time tracking, I read: on my commute (reliably 30 minutes of sustained reading each day), before bed (30-45 minutes) and in longer stretches on weekends (anywhere from 1-2 hours per day). This adds up to ~10 hours per week, and I typically finish 1.5 “average-size” books in that time.

Kindle/phone reading doesn’t work for me; I like to have paper. I also find it difficult to read small chunks at once (e.g., a few pages here and there) and prefer sustained stretches of reading, which probably contributes to reading less than I could.

It would be interesting to compare your notes against my own and that of your readers.

Enjoy your holiday!
