That’s such a great idea! In the past year my husband and I have just resolved to either lay with each kid or sit in the hallway outside their rooms until they sleep. I have no problem with helping my children get to sleep peacefully instead of battling with them to get in bed and demanding they go to sleep, especially since My daughter made a good point when she was about 5. She said she didn’t want to go to sleep by herself: ‘how come you don’t sleep by yourself.’ welp. that’s a good point and i couldn’t argue! but I love your idea of introducing the idea of them reading to themselves before bed- my daughter is 7 and can read- I think I will see if I can start this in my own house!

I figure that once he can read by himself we will encourage him to just read quietly in bed until it’s time to go to sleep, but for now he likes us being in there and it’s nice to be able to give him that support!
