So the new job sent me to Scrum training which is a technique used in Agile project management. One of the “tenets” is “people over process” and they encourage that at the daily standup meetings and biweekly review meetings, you actually schedule in time for personal discussions. As a non-touchy feely person at work, I was sort of taken aback by this, and felt like it was “wasting time” but then I realized with small teams like this, it’s really great to work with people you know and like. And a fast way to get to that place is to learn about what they like to do outside of work. This team also goes to lunch together most days and does not talk about work at lunch. It’s such a different environment for me, and takes some getting used to, but I am starting to love it. These are some of the nicest people I’ve ever worked with, and it really does make going to work more fun 🙂
